Community Impact

To develop our students into the future leaders of tomorrow by developing their skills in organizational leadership to give back to their communites.

Our Mission

To be a program that offers equal opportunities for students and guiding them toward their goals, because success can come at any age.

Our Vision

Our Impact

The class of 2018 hosted Yuma’s First International Peace Conference using their knowledge in transferable communication skills that are essential in promoting peace. Yuma and San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora, Mexico students shared messages of Peace during the conference, showcased their peace-inspired artwork, and encouraged the community to be Peace Ambassadors for both cities and countries. The mayor of the City of Yuma, Douglas J. Nicholls, proclaimed the day of the event May 12, 2018 as the city’s “Day of Peace” and local press attested to the success of the event. Each year SHINE does a Capstone project to unify students to give peace and kindness back into the community.

SHINE began as an After-School Program for kids in elementary. Eventually, the kids in the original program outgrew it, becoming middle school and high school students; however, they wanted to continue participating in SHINE, but did not have a specific role in the activities. In 2015, the after-school Program added a Mentor and Leadership Training component for high school students, and in 2017 it began providing college credit at no cost.
